How a Well-Fitting Bra Can Make a Difference
The Perfect Base Layer
What’s the first thing you do when you get home from work or after a day out? If it’s taking off your bra, you’re not alone. Most people shed them as soon as they can, especially if they’ve spent the day pulling and tugging, trying to make adjustments so it isn’t so uncomfortable.
At Evelyn & Bobbie, we believe it doesn’t need to be like that.
While it’s true that a well-fitting bra is easier to wear, comfortable bra support actually requires a two-pronged approach: fit and construction. You can have a bra that fits like a glove, but it can still cause neck and shoulder pain.
All Bras Are NOT the Same
Most people approach bra shopping by looking at what fits, but not paying too much mind to how the bra was constructed. On the surface, that’s pretty logical—after all, we’re not all expert bra engineers so for most of us, bra construction is a mystery.
However, all bra wearers can speak to comfort with a great deal of authority. And bra manufacturers are well aware of the fact that designing a comfortable, well-fitting bra is a lot more work than going with traditional designs.
Unfortunately, this means traditional bras leave their wearers with pain in the neck and shoulders, leading to poor posture. There’s a reason bra “enhancements” like broad strap pads and extenders are on the market. They are intended to provide shoulder and neck pain relief, but often fall short.
It’s because the construction doesn’t work.
If you want a bra to relieve neck and shoulder pain, you need a bra that considers both fit and construction.
Wearing the “Wrong” Bra Is More Common Than You May Think
Comfort & Support
What happens if you don't wear the right bra? Pain. The straps dig into your shoulders and pull them downward, which leads to poor posture that can cause neck and even back pain.
Then there’s appearance. Bulging at the sides and back is a common complaint, and let’s not forget that embarrassing bra gap. These are often contributed to fit, but there are other aspects of traditional bra construction that lend to the problem.
Postural Implications
As your bra straps press into your shoulders, affecting the muscles in that area, your body will automatically attempt to move away from the pressure and pain. Your shoulders will stoop and drop, throwing your body off balance.
Improper support throws the weight to the front of your body, pulling it forward. This causes pressure on the spine as well, leading to more structural imbalance. The result is pain in the shoulders, neck, and even the back and collarbone as your body tries to compensate for the lack of support and escape the pain.
The Burden on Shoulders
Bra straps have a serious burden to bear. They bear most of the weight of the breasts. This can cause them to dig into the shoulders, causing indentations and red marks on the flesh. If you see that your bra is doing this, it should be a red flag because it’s usually the first indication that something isn’t right.
If you’re experiencing shoulder pain but don’t know why, this could be the reason. As the bra strap presses on the shoulder, it causes pressure on the trapezius muscle. This is especially true with heavier breasts. Many people mistakenly attribute this to fit, but a well-fitting bra can cause this too—and many do.
Evelyn and Bobbie bras are different. Our patented design provides a better distribution of support so your shoulders aren’t bearing most of the weight. Instead, it is transferred to your core, which is much better equipped for carrying it. They are made to be a bra that relieves neck and shoulder pain, and the proof is in the comfort you’ll experience when you wear one.
Giving Time for Adjustment
GIVING TIME FOR ADJUSTMENT
The “four-way stretch” part of our approach to size innovation allows each of our bras to eventually achieve a perfect custom fit, as the material custom molds to your body over time. That said, be sure to allow a minimum of three wear sessions for your product to complete this process.
Shape & Adjustability
How to Find Your Perfect Bra Size
HOW TO FIND YOUR PERFECT BRA SIZE
The best way to ensure you are in the correct EB bra size is to break out the measuring tape and snuggly fit it around your ribcage and your bust while noting down your measurements. Then, track those numbers against the size chart for the style you are purchasing. Important note—each style has its own unique size chart. Always double check for the best fit. If you’re in a rush, or don’t have a measuring tape handy, you can use your traditional bra size to judge what EB size is right for you. Keep in mind, our bras are designed to fit snug at first, and break into your perfectly unique shape after 3 wears.
