Bree's Mother's Day Musings

I can remember being of napping age and lying on my mother’s bed, with the summer breeze coming through her windows, as she read me Anne of Green Gables. I remember my sixth birthday party, in the heat of August, where my mom–whose budget was very tight in those days–brought in the legendary “puppet lady” to do a puppet show for my birthday party guests. I remember my mother hosting a fancy tea party for me and my girl friends, complete with scarves and gloves from her personal antique archive.
When I was little, my mother knew how to make magic. She worked harder than anyone to make sure we had that magic, even when resources were scarce.
In my teen years, my mother made it clear that we could be anything we wanted to be… but we sure as hell couldn’t be lazy. I remember her dropping me and my brother off in the first days of summer break at the berry farm to pick berries. Hard work, my mother taught us, was the unlock in life.
In my twenties, my mother became my partner for adventures. Always ready to go for a weekend adventure: to Santa Fe, remote camping (where she didn’t sleep a wink…), or just about anywhere else I set my sites too. Mom was always ready and willing!
Mom has been my model, my advocate, and is a daily brand advocate for Evelyn & Bobbie! And in recent years with the demands of life and family and work, Mom is my lifeline–driving hours to have my back in the moments where I just can’t make it all work.
My connection with my mother has forever been a source of solidity for me throughout my life. I am so incredibly grateful to her.
This mother’s day, I encourage you to embrace the good, the hard, and the imperfect – in our mothers and in ourselves. Personally, I’m choosing to relish in the memories and the connection that I have shared with my mother, and with other mothers over the years.
Regardless of what Mother’s Day means to you, I wish you love, adventure, and connection this May.
From the heart,
